The aim of the NSW Psychosocial Support Project, Gynaecological Oncology is to foster collaborative psychosocial care for women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer, their families and carers. The website was developed as one strategy to give greater access to information and support to women, their carers and health professionals living across NSW.
The term ‘psychosocial’ is used widely but is not well defined, reflecting its relatively recent introduction into medical contexts. In the absence of a universally accepted definition, the psychosocial aspects of a cancer diagnosis can be understood as referring to: the emotions, attitudes and behaviours of an individual and the social context [family, community and culture] in which they face their diagnosis, treatment, and adjustment to their cancer experience. Psychosocial care or support is aimed at helping individuals face this challenge.

It is not the intention of this site to cover the medical aspects of your diagnosis
and treatment. This will be well covered by your treatment team.
We have provided links to reputable sites where you can find more information about specific gynaecological cancers in the resources and contacts page of this site |
